Renewable Training

Are you ready for RHI?

An introduction to RHI

As part of the UK Government’s EU commitment to a 20% energy contribution from renewable energy sources by 2020, a number of initiatives are being introduced to increase the use of renewable heating technologies throughout the UK.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a Government initiative, to be introduced in 2011, which will incentivise individuals and businesses for renewable heat generation through the installation of renewable microgeneration technologies (such as Solar Thermal or Heat Pumps).

This means that the RHI provides even more reasons for householders to invest in renewable heat generation products.

Importantly, future government funding for homeowners who have renewable technologies installed in their homes, such as the RHI, will only be available if the renewable installation is carried out by an MCS certificated installer using certificated products such as Glow-worm’s Clearly Solar or new Clearly Heat Pumps range.

An introduction to MCS

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is an internationally recognised quality assurance scheme that gives installers a mark of competency so that you can demonstrate to your customers that you can install renewable microgeneration technologies to the highest quality, every time.

As a quality assurance scheme, the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) also applies to manufacturers of most renewable microgeneration technologies (such as Solar Thermal or Heat Pumps) requiring MCS certification.

The benefits of MCS certification for you

By being MCS certificated, the quality of your renewable installations is assured to homeowners who are increasingly looking for renewable installations.

More importantly, individuals and businesses will only be able to access the financial incentives available through the RHI scheme if the installer is MCS certificated.

Installers holding the MCS certification will therefore inevitably become the preferred choice for customers across the UK looking to have renewable heating technologies installed in their homes and benefit from the rapid growth in demand.

What MCS certification involves

You can get MCS accredited by a Certification body for a specific type of renewable technology. This is done by completing a formal application process and assessment.

The assessment includes various stages of the supply, design, installation, set-to-work and commissioning of renewable technologies and culminates with an installation audit.

Glow-worm have developed a comprehensive MCS training course which guides you through every step of the process and gives you all the information and documentation needed for the quality management assessment.

I’m ready for MCS – what’s included?

Glow-worm’s 1 day MCS Quality Management course includes:

  • Full guidance on the full MCS quality manual process
  • MCS Quality Management manual template
  • Glow-worm MCS support pack including installation and servicing manuals
  • All building/planning regulations

Additional to most other MCS courses, the Glow-worm course also includes the following benefits at no extra charge:

  • Free registration on the NICEIC Competent Person’s Scheme - Reducing time in notifying Building control
  • Discounted ongoing installation registration - Reducing the cost of notifying your work to building control.

Achieving MCS Certification will normally take around 6 to 8 weeks from the date of the MCS Quality Management training course.
