Boiler Plus FAQs
Q. Will Boiler Plus affect retrofit boilers after 6th April 2018?
A. No, Boiler Plus only applies to new installations. However, if you would like to make your home more energy efficient, you can retrofit our range of controls and accessories on your boiler.
Q. How can a control help me to increase the efficiency of my heating system?
A. A control can ensure that your boiler only outputs the amount of energy that it needs to in order to achieve the desired temperature. Most boilers operate at full output until a temperature is reached, whereas boilers modulated by a control will work more efficiently by taking into account factors such as existing room temperatures.
Q. What if I don’t want a “complicated” control?
A. Our range of smart controls have been designed to be straightforward and user-friendly. If you are reluctant to use a smart control, Boiler Plus can be achieved by using a simple thermostat such as the Climastat.
Q. What is load compensation?
A. Load compensation occurs when the boiler intelligently communicates with a control to use the current room temperature to decide how much output it needs to use in order to reach the desired room temperature.
Q. What is weather compensation?
A. Weather compensation occurs when the boiler uses the current outside temperature, via an outdoor sensor or by using internet data, to decide how hard it needs to work in order to reach the desired temperature. This saves energy and increases the life of the boiler.
Q. Do 3rd party controls fit with Glow-worm boilers as well?
A. Whilst 3rd party controls do work with Glow-worm boilers and would meet Boiler Plus standards, only Glow-worm controls achieve maximum efficiency for Glow-worm boilers. This is because Glow-worm controls have been designed specifically to work with Glow-worm boilers.
Q. Does my installer know about Boiler Plus?
A. Your local installer should know about the upcoming legislation changes. Club Energy installers have all had information fully explaining Boiler Plus and we also provide training on Boiler Plus. You can find your local Club Energy installer here.
